ABOUT THE MAYOR

Mike’s vision has always been to work together with Sunrise residents, employees and businesses to make Sunrise the best place to live, work, play, shop and learn … for the young, young-at-heart, and everyone in between. Mike has always said there is no east or west Sunrise… no north or south Sunrise … there is only ONE SUNRISE. Even before he was elected Mayor, his work on behalf of students, families, teachers, and schools is unmatched. He also organized the community to fight against a garbage dump being built next to a place of worship, then against a development on the border of Everglades and protecting our full time School Resource Officers program. Since Mike was elected in 2010, Sunrise has undergone transformative improvements and expansions of parks, expanded the job base through supporting new and existing businesses, and dedicated tens of millions of dollars in neighborhood and infrastructure revitalization. He led the effort to weather economic catastrophes and real storms together with the community, while focusing on improving customer service as we compete to attract and maintain residents and businesses alike. Mike knows we do not accomplish anything worthwhile alone and we cannot be complacent because accomplishments today are not guaranteed tomorrow. Others may focus on the “I” in politics, but Mike wants to focus on the “US” in Success! Together, we will keep Sunrise moving forward and embrace that small-town neighborly feel that drew us all to this community.
